English lead screws are fasteners with threaded shaft and nut designed in accordance with the English measurement system. They differ from ball screws with respect to their source of friction; the former uses sliding motion to generate friction while the latter uses rolling. Well-known for their smooth operation, self-aligning capability of the integral nuts and precise positioning over long distances, these screws are also favored for their noiseless operation and high performance. They are generally used to move tables and machine parts. Recorders, scanners as well as other graphic imaging equipment, and printers are some devices to which these screws offer precision.
