A rotary lobe blower, also known as a Roots blower, is a specific design of a positive displacement compressor with a pair of "8"-shaped lobed impellers connected mechanically through gears such that they rotate opposite to each other. This particular design enables the impellers to be in proximal distance to each other; however prevents contact with each other as well as the pump walls they come across at every position while rotating. The blower possesses close tolerances, which causes impellers to rotate without a lubricant thereby giving rise to an oil-free process flow. Applications that require a huge volume of gas to be circulated across a relatively minute pressure differential employ this type of blower.
