Timken Launches High-Resolution Magnetic Encoder for Motion Control Applications
Canton, OH - The Timken Company announced that it has launched a new packaged, industrial magnetic encoder designed to provide increased reliability and performance over conventional optical encoders, especially in high-shock and vibration conditions. "This technology lets the plant engineer sleep at night, knowing his or her operation won't go down from a common encoder failure" said Greg Vanbuskirk, business development manager. Timken's patented THS25 encoder affords greater reliability than optical encoders, which are susceptible to failure in high-shock and vibration conditions because they rely on line-of-sight technology. "Timken's new magnetic encoder technology provides consistent, reliable performance in inconsistent conditions," says Vanbuskirk. "It's ideal for applications such as wind energy, web processing, robotics and material handling."

Corrosion spots are small, isolated areas where corrosion has reduced a pipe's wall thickness and can compromise its ability to safely hold pressure and its contents. Part of GE's field-proven phased array family, the Phasor CV/DM provides extensive inspection coverage with every scan, and even the smallest corrosion pit can be identified, measured and evaluated. Concurrently, inspection times are significantly reduced. The Phasor CV/DM has application in the oil and gas, process, aerospace, power generation and general engineering sectors. "Corrosion spots are difficult to locate because they are very small and, using other inspection methods, are easily missed, just like looking for a needle in a haystack," says Patrik Rooman, Product General Manager for Ultrasound at GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies. "With the phased array technology, multiple ultrasonic beams are extended to provide more quality data to identify potential corrosion spots."

Kistler's CoMo Injection with MultiFlow Balances Hot-Runner Molds on Basis of Cavity Pressure   New Biofiltration Technology Proves Efficient Solution for VOC Emission Control
Switzerland - The curve of cavity pressure during injection molding is the critical process variable for evaluating part quality. It is also the most informative controlled variable for balancing hot-runner systems. The CoMo Injection process monitoring system Type 2869B from Kistler with the optional integrated MultiFlow function now combines comprehensive process monitoring and automatic hot-runner balancing in a single tool. Cycle by cycle, CoMo Injection with MultiFlow measures the pressure in each cavity of a hot-runner mold - from injection, through compression and holding pressure, to cooling phase. In the injection and holding pressure phase the MultiFlow software function analyzes the curves of the pressures in all cavities. With a view to identical filling and hence a synchronous rise in pressures in all cavities, it automatically calculates new setpoint temperatures for each hot-runner tip as manipulated variable. The system automatically transfers the calculated setpoints via an interface to the hot-runner controller.   Owosso, MI - Tri-Mer Corporation has announced a major advance in bio-filter technology for the control of VOC emissions.
