General Dynamics Adds Networking Waveform to Radios for Critical Soldier Connectivity; Four Manufacturers Make Ready for Production   Adaptive Materials Introduces 250-watt Fuel Cell System to Portable Power Market
SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit (HMS) team, led by General Dynamics C4 Systems, has successfully added the highly capable Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW 1.0c) to the Rifleman Radio (AN/PRC-154) and the HMS Manpack Radio intended for use in vehicles. This places HMS first in line to bring the JTRS SRW 1.0c to dismounted soldiers for an unprecedented level of network connectivity. Next steps for the Rifleman Radio include Security Verification Testing and final certification, followed by a Department of Defense Milestone C decision which is the last step before low-rate initial production (LRIP). The government expects to make its LRIP award for HMS in November 2009. In preparation for initial production, the General Dynamics-led team has qualified four manufacturers as suppliers of HMS radios to the government. Each of the manufacturers - BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Rockwell Collins and Thales Communications - have successfully built and delivered HMS radios to the government for testing and use during military exercises.   Ann Arbor, MI - Adaptive Materials, the solid oxide fuel cell manufacturer leading the portable power revolution, recently introduced its 250-watt fuel cell to the market. The system, which joins the 50-watt portable system and 180-watt unmanned vehicle power system in Adaptive Materials' fuel cell portfolio, will provide lightweight power ideal for recharging batteries and powering portable electronic devices. "Our 250-watt system was developed to address the real need for soldiers to carry reliable, safe power into the field," said Adaptive Materials' chief business officer Michelle Crumm. "Weighing just nine kilograms and occupying 17 liters, our 250-watt fuel cell system can directly power a six bay military issue battery charger for BB-2590s, Li-145s and other lower capacity battery types. Plus, like all of our fuel cell systems, Adaptive Materials' 250-watt fuel cell is powered by globally-available, lightweight propane." Adaptive Materials' 250-watt fuel cell was developed as part of an internal project funded under IRAD. Adaptive Materials will deliver three 250-watt fuel cell systems to the U.S. Government in late 2009 for field testing.

Brevard County Florida Launches New Communication Tool for Hurricane Season   Check Point IPS Solutions Protect Against Unpatched Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Exploits
MELBOURNE, FL - For Brevard County residents, the second half of hurricane season historically marks the beginning of the action. Despite the best efforts of service providers, hurricanes can knock out power, phone and internet to thousands of residents. This year the Brevard County Office of Emergency Management has partnered with Melbourne-based viaRadio to maintain communication with residents before, during and after a storm. viaRadio developed a local alert system combines radio-style receivers, known as HEARO, with software technology to send immediate text messages to residents from Brevard County Emergency Management. During this hurricane season, Brevard County officials will use the HEARO Local Alert Receiver as a standard part of their comprehensive emergency messaging protocol. Officials will employ the technology to communicate with county staff, emergency management team members and in some cases, residents of Brevard County on subjects ranging from urgent safety concerns to road and school closures.   Redwood City, CA - Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that Check Point IPS solutions shield customers against exploits associated with the FTP Service in Microsoft Internet Information Services vulnerability. Successful exploitation of this unpatched vulnerability could allow hackers to take over an affected company's systems. Although no Microsoft patch is currently available for this vulnerability, Check Point Security Gateway R70 customers using the IPS Software Blade are automatically protected. No action is required if they are using the "Recommended Profile" setting. Check Point VPN-1® NGX R65, VSX® NGX R65 and IPS-1® NGX R65 customers also have existing protections and should check they are activated. Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is a collection of Internet services packaged with several versions of the Windows operating system. IIS includes a FTP server service for exchanging and manipulating files over a TCP computer network. The vulnerability is due to an error in IIS that fails to do sufficient bounds checking when processing an FTP NLST command.

Agilent Technologies' New High-Performance VME/VXS Digitizer Targets Programs for Defense Market   Anaren Launches First in Family of New, Surface-Mount Xinger(R)-Brand Couplers Designed for Defense Applications and Bands
Santa Clara, CA - Agilent Technologies today introduced a VME/VXS module that simultaneously provides wide input signal bandwidth and dynamic range. The SVM3500 is a quad-channel 12-bit digitizer allowing channel interleaving to provide sampling up to 2 GS/s. With more than 2 GHz analog bandwidth, the module is ideal for applications in radar, Electronic Warfare (EW) and Synthetic Instrumentation (SI). The Agilent SVM3500 builds on the modular U1083A VME/VXS base card with an analog digitizer mezzanine that includes four 12-bit, 500 MS/s ADCs. The mezzanine incorporates a clock distribution circuit, the MCK, distributing an external clock throughout the mezzanine, in phase, in anti-phase, or in quadrature with very low added jitter, allowing interleaved sampling rates at up to 2 GS/s. When interleaving, frequency-dependant gain and delay mismatch correction is handled by a finite impulse response (FIR) filter implemented in an on-mezzanine Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA that also includes an externally accessible lookup table (LUT), correcting any static offset and gain errors.   SYRACUSE, NY - Anaren, Inc. announced that it has introduced three Xinger(R)-brand couplers specifically designed to cover the wide range of bands of interest to manufacturers of defense equipment, such as military radio receivers and counter-IED products, among other applications. Available in three formats -- the smallest measuring only 0.20 x 0.56 x 0.089" -- and featuring Anaren's proven multilayer stripline approach, these new wideband couplers are among several technologies Anaren has successfully adapted from its commercial-wireless business for defense-related applications. These components also mark the first in a family of related military components that Anaren intends to introduce over time. "Our customers have expressed a desire for functional consolidation into wider bandwidth assemblies in order to lower material costs and reduce channel counts," says Mark Kosalek, Business Development Manager for Anaren's Space & Defense Group.
