Optimize Machine Design With a Software Solution From Dassault Systèmes and Rockwell Automation
MILWAUKEE and Paris, - Rockwell Automation and Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. plan to broaden their work together by developing a joint mechatronic solution for machine builders that helps allow mechanical, electrical and controls design engineers to work together to analyze, optimize, simulate and select machine designs in a virtual design and production environment before committing to a final machine design. Machine builders will benefit from the joint solution through increased machine value, improved machine sustainability, and greater innovation agility. The solution allows designers to test various component selections and designs virtually, rather than building and testing multiple physical prototypes. As a result, they can select the design that provides the highest machine throughput, thus improving the machine’s effectiveness.

China National Chemical Engineering Co., LTD. Expands Use of Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise Solutions   Schott Systeme Significantly Reduce CAM Toolpath Calculation Times
HUNTSVILLE, AL - China National Chemical Engineering Co., LTD. (CNCEC), one of China´s largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) concerns, has expanded the use of Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise design and engineering software to five of its operating companies to further increase productivity and cost savings and to accelerate project schedules. An existing Intergraph customer, CNCEC had already experienced the benefits and productivity gains using Intergraph´s next-generation 3D modeling and visualization, information management, instrumentation, and piping and instrumentation diagram software solutions. Now, CNCEC will expand use of these solutions, including SmartPlant 3D, further into five more companies within the CNCEC group: China Tianchen Engineering Co, Ltd.; Sedin Engineering Co. Ltd.; East China Engineering Science and Technology Co., Ltd.; China Hualu Engineering Co., Ltd.; and China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd.   Munich, Germany - German CAD/CAM developer Schott Systeme GmbH have announced the inclusion of parallel processing functionality within the latest release of their CAD/CAM software 'Pictures by PC 3.4', providing significant reductions of up to 60% in toolpath calculation times. With machining strategies becoming ever more complex, especially when employing high end 5 axis simultaneous milling and engraving techniques such as those offered by Schott Systeme, toolpath calculation times naturally become longer. However the Schott Systeme team have recently rewritten their software to ensure that the latest 32 and 64 bit versions can parallel process toolpath calculations. By dividing the processing of toolpaths over multiple cores in a computer's CPU, the software has instant access to the extra processing power offered by dual and quad core PC's.

Schunk´s New Adapter Plates for its Quick-Change System   Fairchild Semiconductor Launches IntelliMAX™ Design Tool
Morrisville, NC - Schunk has developed new adapter plates for its quick-change system for the SWS series. These have up to 14 valves integrated in them, depending on the size. The adapter plates are mounted between the quick-change head and robot flange, establishing the connection between these two components. The new adapter plates contain all the valves that are needed for actuating the SWS, and are supplied with compressed air via a central connection. The valves are actuated by a central electrical connection which also allows interrogation of the locking and unlocking status of the SWS as well as the proximity switches of the grippers used. The adapter plates will in future be supplied in the complete package matching the particular adapter head.   San Jose, CA - Fairchild Semiconductor provides designers of portable applications a web-based simulation tool to quickly and accurately assess the performance of advanced load switches in actual application circuits. The IntelliMAX design tool is unlike other simulation tools because it offers an intuitive, user-friendly environment containing models of Fairchild´s advanced load switches in pre-defined application circuits. This feature enables designers to quickly and easily adjust the circuit component values to more closely approximate their applications´ operating conditions. By using the tool´s interactive graphical user interface (GUI), designers can examine the performance most important for their application. This simulation environment expedites product selection and validation, enabling designers to improve their systems´ robustness, while getting their products to market faster. Fairchild´s comprehensive portfolio of highly integrated IntelliMAX advanced load switches combine protection, control and fault monitoring functions in compact packaging to reduce complexity in power management designs and accelerate time-to-market.
