Nortel and LG Electronics Complete World's First 3GPP Compliant Active Handover Between CDMA and LTE Networks |
|
 |
OTTAWA - Nortel and LG Electronics have demonstrated the world's first 3GPP standards compliant active handover of a data transmission between a LTE network and a CDMA network. The demonstration showed that online activities like video downloads, web surfing, and VoIP calls can be maintained when a mobile data user moves between LTE and CDMA coverage zones. Nortel's CDMA business and LTE Access assets are the subject of an asset sale agreement with Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson ("Ericsson") set to close in the fall of 2009. LG Electronics (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, has contributed to this demonstration by developing its CDMA/LTE device, the M13. LG has focused on developing CDMA/LTE devices and equipment since 2006 to drive the next generation of mobile technology, and achieved prominence by unveiling the world's first modem chipset for 4G LTE devices in December 2008. |

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - To help public safety organizations meet the demands of new and emerging communications technologies increasingly used by the public, Avaya today announced it has enhanced its Next-Generation 9-1-1-ready (NG 9-1-1) solutions. The newly expanded solution adds a professional services consulting offer, technical capabilities, and developer partners to help deliver complete, fully-integrated solutions for public safety organizations. According to a recent report from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), the nation's 9-1-1 systems are "in need of a significant overhaul." Public safety organizations face multiple, critical challenges due to the highly-limited, legacy communications systems broadly used by more than 6,000 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPS) and 500,000 affiliate organizations such as police, fire, EMS, etc. Among the challenges created by these systems are the inability to incorporate and respond to new forms of media increasingly used by the public, such as video and SMS/text services, the ability to quickly add and redistribute staff to support high call volumes and the lack of interoperability among communications systems. |

ARMONK, N.Y. - IBM released results from its X-Force 2009 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report. The report's findings show an unprecedented state of Web insecurity as Web client, server, and content threats converge to create an untenable risk landscape. According to the report, there has been a 508 percent increase in the number of new malicious Web links discovered in the first half of 2009. This problem is no longer limited to malicious domains or untrusted Web sites. The X-Force report notes an increase in the presence of malicious content on trusted sites, including popular search engines, blogs, bulletin boards, personal Web sites, online magazines and mainstream news sites. The ability to gain access and manipulate data remains the primary consequence of vulnerability exploitations. The X-Force report also reveals that the level of veiled Web exploits, especially PDF files, are at an all time high, pointing to increased sophistication of attackers. PDF vulnerabilities disclosed in the first half of 2009 surpassed disclosures from all of 2008. From Q1 to Q2 alone, the amount of suspicious, obfuscated or concealed content monitored by the IBM ISS Managed Security Services team nearly doubled. |

Embotics Partners with Surgient to Simplify IT Administration with Self-Service Provisioning and Automation of Virtual Environments |
TORRANCE, CA - LiveOffice, the leading provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS), email archiving, email hosting and email continuity solutions, announced that Windsor Foods has deployed LiveOffice Personal Archive and LiveOffice Discovery Archive to provide unlimited storage capacity, improved server performance and e-discovery capabilities to its more than 600 users spread throughout 11 U.S. facilities. A national provider of frozen food products, Windsor Foods required a scalable email archiving and e-discovery solution to address its rapidly growing data stores, which were pushing the company's in-house mail servers to near capacity and beginning to cause performance issues. Windsor Foods' Vice President of Information Technology, Stephan Henze, knew they had to make a choice: "Start deleting, buy more storage or start archiving." Following a lengthy evaluation of the leading on-premise email archiving providers, Henze -once a skeptic of the SaaS delivery model -determined that a hosted email archiving solution would be the best fit. |

Ottawa, ON -- Embotics, the Virtualization Automation and Control Company™, today announced a partnership agreement with Surgient, a leader in self-service provisioning for dynamic data centers. Together, the companies are offering enterprises complete lifecycle management and self-service provisioning of virtual environments. Manual controls that work well for small, contained virtual environments can create significant issues as these virtual environments grow. The resulting overload of administration teams and potential process bottlenecks have created what has come to be known as the IT Service Delivery Gap. While IT budgets have stayed flat or even decreased in recent history, the demand for complex, virtualized IT resources to support business activities continues to increase, creating a critical IT service delivery gap. As a result, frustrated users are creating their own virtual infrastructure outside the bounds and controls established by IT. |
