Cable Drum Alternative Showcased at IMTS 2012

Press Release:
Jul 19, 2012 — igus®, a worldwide leader in cable carriers, continuous-flex cables, plastic bushings, self-aligning bearings and linear guides, will be exhibiting at IMTS 2012, booth 5613 in the East Building, from September 10-15 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Il. igus has created an interactive booth where visitors can learn how to integrate a wide range of products to solve their most demanding manufacturing challenges. New products on show include new igus E4.1 Energy Chains® and “e-spool”, a direct replacement for cable drums.

The company’s IMTS theme for 2012 will be, “Improve Technology. Reduce Costs.” Visitors to the company’s booth will be able to experiment with interactive product displays, as well as take advantage of the company’s free sample arrangement.

The E4-1 Energy Chain System® combines all the benefits of its three predecessors —increasing service life and lowering costs for end users. E4-1 offers smooth, cable-friendly inner surfaces and a low-noise operation thanks to noise-absorbing sound dampers featured on its radial stop dogs. Other features include a wide range of interior separation options, a large accessory kit, extension links, and potential travel distances over 650 feet.

The e-spool is a friendly alternative to the cable drum. It guides various types of media cables in very narrow spaces and uniquely combines two different energy supply systems. A standard e-chain® cable carrier is guided by a roller and provides exactly the right length and tension needed through an integrated retention spring. A rotating TwisterBand system connects the roller with the shaft block, which serves as an interface to the permanently laid cables. Cables and hoses can also be connected throughout to supply data, compressed air, and liquids and can be modified or retrofitted at any time.

Other noteworthy products to be displayed at the show include: plastic cable carriers with aluminum lids, and others with integrated rollers for exceptionally long travels, as well as new versions of igus’ Triflex R multi-axis cable carriers for robots. Visitors to the show should also check out the company’s DryLin® slide tables and geared PRT slewing rings.
