| | Dec 22, 2015 — Delta, BC—The Eriez® Flotation Division (EFD) has been selected to supply a variety of proprietary process equipment to the Kropz Elandsfontein Phosphate Project on the west coast of South Africa. The EFD equipment includes CrossFlow Separators for size classification, a Rotary Slurry Powered distributor for stream splitting and 10 Flotation Columns. The equipment will be commissioned in 2016.
The order was approved upon completion of an extensive analysis for processing ore from the Elandsfontein deposit. A team of EFD mineral processing engineers and technologists working at the Eriez Test Lab in Erie, PA, developed various flotation flow sheets for ore processing. Following a number of test campaigns and evaluations, Kropz and its engineering firm, DRA International, worked closely with EFD personnel to design and select the optimal flow sheet.
“The collaboration between our lab and the Kropz team gave both parties great confidence that the technology being selected will work well for the Elandsfontein project,” says Drew Hobert, EFD Process Engineer. Eric Wasmund, EFD Global Managing Director, notes, “The Elandsfontein project is a great model of how EFD can be involved from an early stage by using our Test Lab to develop and validate flow sheets on the lab scale. This testing minimizes scale-up and start-up risk and ensures the right technology is selected from the start.”
EFD has supplied more than 1,000 unit operations for flotation equipment, including more than 100 for phosphate applications in the United States, Brazil, Canada and China. The various types of equipment include HydroFloat™ for floating coarse ore, CrossFlow Separators for sizing ore and Flotation Columns with sparging technology selected based on specific ore particle characteristics.
