The Tall Ships Erie festival brings together eight tall ships from around the world to Dobbins Landing in Erie. The event is a fundraiser to support the Flagship Niagara League, a non-profit educational program for people of all ages that provides active learning experiences onboard the authentic 19th century ship, Flagship Niagara.
“It’s been a few years since the Tall Ships festival has been to Erie, so we’re especially excited to be a part of this event,” says Tim Shuttleworth, Eriez President and CEO. The HMS Bounty II was built in 1962 for the film Mutiny on the Bounty which depicts the 1789 maritime mutiny in the South Pacific. The Bounty, based out of Long Island, New York, is now used for educational development and leadership learning for non-profit organizations and youth-at-sea programs.
The Tall Ships Erie festival is held during the “Erie Heritage Weekend.” The city is expecting 30,000-50,000 people to attend. The festival will include tours of the ships, sailing excursions and down rigging demonstrations.
