Good Vibrations - New Vibration Controllers Launched

Press Release:
Jul 1, 2011 — Sound and vibration leader Brüel & Kjær has released its next generation of vibration test controllers, designed to comprehensively span the range of applications required for production testing, durability testing and aerospace and space.

The two units offer users the latest technologies as part of a complete and flexible vibration test solution.

PC connectivity is via a LAN interface that allows wireless operation, and facilitates centralised control of multiple controllers remote from the vibration table test stations. In addition to reducing cabling, the controller can thus be placed close to the shaker, and the entire system can be supervised and analysed remotely. Keyword searching of the embedded database makes it quick and easy to recall test setups and data, while the ASAM-ODS industry standard file format makes it easy to share data to expedite product design.

Both of the new variants promise to save setup time and simplify testing procedures by virtually guaranteeing that input signal under-ranges and overloads are eliminated. This is thanks to dual, parallel A/Ds that deliver an exceptionally wide 130 dB dynamic range for the input channels without the need for multiple-input voltage range circuitry.

Modular and expandable, the Type 7542 controller offers up to 64 input channels for control and limiting, while its smaller brother the Type 7541 is perfect for applications that require from two to four input channels. Controller software applications specifically tailored to each type of vibration test reduce learning time and make it easy to get results quickly.

Safety and analysis are both enhanced for complex, fragile structures such as satellites, with up to 64 channels for control, and over 1000 channels of abort monitors possible. This abundant channel count comes from a unique approach that allows integration with Brüel & Kjær’s PULSE data acquisition hardware. With a simple LAN connection, the benefit of the PULSE modular architecture can come into play, allowing a scalable system with as many abort monitors as necessary. In addition, this synergy provides concurrent and integrated data acquisition with hundreds of input channels.

Stand-alone capability without the need for a PC during operation is another key to the controllers’ ease of use. Hardware buttons on the front panel allow unskilled operators to get tests right the first time, and prevent unwanted actions. Meanwhile, a built-in battery guarantees that tests are successfully completed, even in the event of power failure.

Special software includes advanced test methods for kurtosis control and test acceleration, making it possible to reduce test time and save costs for product development. In addition, both controllers offer full-capability control and analysis software applications for random, swept sine, resonance dwell, classical shock, random- and sine-on-random, shock SRS, and field data replication.

The built-in integration functionality allows the controllers to automatically integrate and coordinate all of the test equipment, including the shaker amplifier and an environmental chamber. With all of the excitation and measurement equipment available in a single system, customers will receive the added benefit of investing in a single supplier with an unrivalled backup network.
