Centrifugal pumps (called C pumps) have a rotary motion of a profiled impeller in combination with a shaped pump housing to apply centrifugal force to discharge fluids from the pump. They operate most efficiently in high-volume, low-output-pressure conditions, and unlike positive-displacement pumps, the flow may be controlled allowing flow to be completely closed off while the pump is running.
