Compression springs are usually made from wire that is cylindrically coiled and as a result offers resistance to compressive forces. By designing springs with different wire sizes, coil spacing, and so on, common shapes such as conical, barrel, tapered, and hourglass can be manufactured. These springs offer a good resistance to linear compressing forces and are among components that efficiently store significant amounts of mechanical energy. They can be found in a wide variety of applications, for example, engines, suspensions, pens, and electronics. Learn more about compression springs.
