A peristaltic pump consists of a plastic tube which is pinched against an arc by one, or a series of several rollers. Fluid in the tube is forced through the tube by the action of the roller. Peristaltic pumps have a variety of uses in the medical field. There is very little damage caused by the mechanical action of the roller on the fluid, therefore this type of pump is ideal for pumping such fluids as blood, and is used for that purpose in blood filtration devices.
