Spiral wound gaskets are mechanical seals formed by spirally winded metal strip and a filler material soft of nature on the periphery of the mandrel. Gaskets of this type are dependent on the mechanical properties of the produced metal spiral strip rather than the compressive properties as is the case with conventional gaskets, which makes these gaskets ideal for fluctuating or low bolt loads. Their high tolerance for extreme pressure and temperature makes these gaskets an ideal component in applications involving high variations in pressure and temperature. They are also functional as static sealing element in pumps, thermal exchanges, valves, pipes and other parts.
