Ball screws are mechanical devices that convert rotational motion into linear motion. The ball bearings serve the purpose of a precision screw, and glide through a spiral raceway provided by a threaded shaft. The threaded shaft serves as the screw while the ball assembly operates as the nut. Such screws, even while lessening friction, are capable to operate with some preload, eliminating backlash prevalent between input (rotation) and output (linear motion),. This feature emerges to be of immense significance when these screws are used in computer-controlled motion-control systems such as CNC machine tools.
