Hitch pin clips, also referred to as hairpin cotter pins, are spring-style cotter pins that facilitate rapid assembly and disassembly. They are usually used as a locking device and serve as a mating part to numerous diverse pins. They are typically made of wire, and though stainless steel or spring wire are the most common materials of construction, specialized materials are also used for fabrication. These hairpin cotter pins are assorted into grooved, dowel, wire form, rolled or spring and tapered pins.
