 Bow Tie Cotter (BTC): These bow-shaped cotterpins are easy and quick to assemble, simply push or pull them into a hole, and they give secure holding power. They cannot be accidentally knocked out, or vibrated out of position.

 Split Ring (SR): Rounded cotter pins are easy and quick to install, they provide secure holding and cannot be knocked or vibrated out of place. They are often used as handles or with chain assemblies.

 Ring Cotters (RC): A single action bent wire form that loops around pin end while the straight end locks into position. The loop adds strength and security to the lock. Generally made from higher gauge wire than circle cotters.

 Circle Cotter (CC): A single action bent wire form that loops around typically low stress applications. The sharp point is internal to part, thus circle cotters are often used where sharp points are not desirable such as fabric or rubber-sealed environments.
