Typically, the fluid is being pumped between rollers placed on a rotary hub that trap the fluid between them by sealing the tube on either side. On rotating, one of the rollers unseals the tubing, allowing the remaining rollers to force the fluid through the discharge port of the pump. The liquid fills up the tubing behind the lagging roller and the pumping process is repeated again.
