Model 4137 Application:
The HP VersaLink Fiber / RS-232 Converters are used to connect fiber optic linked terminals to a controller having an RS-232 interface port. While RS-232 is a versatile communication standard, conversion to a fiber optic communication standard also allows data transmission that is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields. Additionally, the ports of the connected terminals are protected from damage by potential differences (ground variatons) that often exist between them.

The Model 4042 is designed to operate from -40°C to 85°C. The unit features ESD protection circuitry on the RS422 copper interface. The power input is protected from transients, as well as, over voltage and over current. The converter is powered from a 5V power supply or a 28V power supply via the DB9 connector. Other features include user selectable fiber polarity, TX, RX and Power indicator LEDs.

The POF Fiber Optic Signal Repeater with RS232 Monitor Port is used to regenerate data signals in order to extend the range between optically linked Video Lottery Terminals. It also has the capability to monitor network traffic via an RS232 Monitor Port. The fiber optic communication standard also allows data transmission that is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields.
