 Interactive, In-Vehicle, Web-Enabled Data Acquisition System with GPS
 
The Interactive, In-Vehicle, Web-Enabled Data Acquisition System (WEDAQ) provides in-vehicle data acquisition and positioning information with remote real-time access to other geographical locations via the Internet.
 
Streaming data is available during tests and stored data files are available for previously completed tests.
 
WEDAQ is a self-contained system, requiring only 12 VDC battery connections and user-specified sensor for monitoring vehicle performance.
 
The WEDAQ hardware is located in the vehicle, termed the local side of the system. Remote users require an Internet connection and Microsoft Internet Explorer standard Web browser.
 
System Components:
  • Data Acquisition Signal Conditioning Unit accepts 16 channels of analog inputs. Provides gain, filtering, and signal buffering of the analog voltages and passes them to the A/D converter in the laptop PC. Drives an LCD indicator for viewing data and contains a GPS unit. An analog output is provided for general usage.
  • Laptop PC with Integrated A/D and Wireless Modem serves as host platform. Provides data digitization and local data storage of all sensed channels. Acts as a conduit for remote Internet access to streaming data and archived test data. Internet access achieved with a wireless modem integrated into laptop PC.
  • DC/AC Inverter Module uses 12 VDC vehicle voltage to generate a standard AC voltage to power laptop PC.
  • QuickView Driver Display is mounted in a small box that is cabled to the DAQ. Features LCD display that can be set to show current value of any sensed signal during a test.
  • GPS Antenna gathers satellite info for global position subsystem within the data acquisition signal conditioning unit.
  • Vehicle Sensors are user-supplied sensor inputs to the data acquisition signal conditioning unit that moitor desired vehicle parameters or performance. These signals are processed, digitized and stored for analysis.

The desktop unit, Model 4167 is a Host that works with Model 4168 4-Port Hub to comprise a local HOST and Remote 4-Port integrated USB HUB that directly accepts 4 USB load cells. Together, the host and remote units extend the range of USB load cells from less than 5 meters to 500 meters via a high speed Fiber interface. Factory options can extend the distance up to 10 kilometers. Also available in DIN Rail configurations, 4167-DIN Host and 4168-DIN 4-Port Hub.
 
The units convert USB 2.0 compliant data from a standard PC Host interface over fiber to remote integrated 4-port powered USB Hub that directly accepts 4 USB load cells. Operation of the Quad USB Load Cell Extender/Isolator is plug-and-play and fully transparent to the USB Load Cell, requiring no other hardware and no PC software.
 
This instrumentation is ideal for PC data acquisition requiring high speed data acquisition with optical isolation from electromagnetic interference. The Model 4167 and Model 4168 system can extend a combination of USB load cells and other USB based devices using its integrated USB hub.
 
Applications include: industrial control, weigh tables, isolated data acquisition, and remotely located USB sensors. The units offer true plug and play operability with support for Windows®, MAC OS®, Linux®, and support all USB device types (Control, Interrupt, Bulk and Isochronous at up to 480 Mbps).
 
The units have been tested to operate from 0°C to +50°C (component ratings meet or exceed 0°C to 70°C). ESD protection circuitry is built into all copper USB I/O interfaces. Both units' power inputs are protected from transients and the 4-Port Hub (Model 4168, 4168-DIN) provides the USB standard of 500mA per port. The units feature; Power, Fiber Link Active, Host Active (Model 4167, 4167-DIN) and Port Active (Model 4168, 4168-DIN) indicator LEDs.
 
Two configurations are available for each model:(1) Model 4167 Host Desktop Unit, for applications requiring an enclosure.(2) Model 4167-DIN Host Unit for applications requiring mounting on a DIN rail.(3) Model 4168 4-Port Hub Desktop Unit, for applications requiring an enclosure.(4) Model 4168-DIN 4-Port Hub Unit for applications requiring mounting on a DIN rail.

The CellMite® ProD Model 4349 is a high performance data acquisition and sensor monitoring module from Electro Standards Laboratories that is suitable for embedded applications that require a ruggedized high speed analog and digital data acquisition unit that is accessible via an Ethernet network.
 
The Model 4349 creates both a low speed monitoring data stream and a high speed transient event data stream that are designed to measure and report both static and pulsed sensor events. Typical sensors can include load cells, temperature sensors, strain gages, general analog outputs, voltages, currents, pulse counting, and digital contacts. Complex systems can be monitored by using a multitude of CellMite® ProD Model 4349 boards as Ethernet monitoring nodes within an Ethernet network.
 
The CellMite® ProD features 11 channels of 12-bit analog inputs that can be sampled up to 10,000 samples/second. Digital data acquisition is also supported with 64-bits of simultaneously sampled digital inputs, 4-bits of isolated digital inputs, and 3 digital counter inputs that are also sampled at up to 10,000 samples/second. The high sampling rates make the Model 4349 perfect for recording important sensor data from transient applications such as pulsed power systems.
 
Direct PC or network communication is supported by a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet data channel with user selectable event and monitor data packet size in order to minimize network congestion. The communication channels are optically isolated in order to minimize system ground loops. For applications requiring on-board data storage, the CellMite® ProD features 750K Words of onboard memory that can be used to buffer transient event data. The CellMite® ProD features a wide input voltage range of 19VDC-36VDC, along with 3kVDC isolation. The CellMite® ProD is designed for ruggedized applications and is designed to operate from -40C to +85C.
