Multivariable Mass & Volumetric Vortex Flow Meters
 
Sierra was the first to introduce a Multivariable Mass Vortex Flow Meter to the market in the late 1990's. Learn more about how this next generation ofMass Vortex Flow Meter technologycame about.  Sierra's Multivariable product line features an inline version, the Model 240 Innova-Mass® vortex flowmeter and a unique immersion version, the Model 241 Innova-Mass®. The Model 241 has emerged recently as the proven instrument of choice ingeothermal steam applicationsacross the globe. The Model 240 and Model 241 can measure the mass flow rate of any gas or liquid and are ideally suited for saturated or superheated steam. The Model 241 vortex flow meter is available in high-pressure versions capable of mass flow measurement of gases up to 5000 psig.
 
Our Multivariable Technology allows one instrument and one process connection to measure FIVE process parameters at the same time to simultaneously measure mass flow rate, temperature, pressure, volumetric flow rate, and fluid density.
 
The Innova-Mass cryogenic version has undergone extensive testing and field validation over the last several years proving that the meter is preferred versus traditional turbine meters for measuring mass flow rates of cryogenic fluids down to -328°F (-200°C).  Using a special cryogenic temperature RTD, mass calculations are done with the latest density equations of state for liquid Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon, and CO2. All models are fully field-programmable, configurable and feature RS485, MODBUS or HART protocols.   Sierra's Innova-Flo volumetric vortex products, the Model 240V and Model 241V, have the same advantages of the premium Innova-Mass offering, but do not have the temperature and pressure measurement capability.

Scientific Product Family (Gas Mass Flow up to 1000 slpm):
 
Our Scientific Product Family offers you a powerful choice in gas mass flow products.  If you only need to measure the mass flow rate of gas, choose from our line of Mass Flow Meters (MFM).  If you would like to regulate as well as measure gas mass flows, select from among our Mass Flow Controllers (MFC) with integrated valve and control electronics.  Our Scientific Products can be used with any clean dry gas you choose, including mixtures, toxics and corrosives.  The Scientific Product Family utilizes our patented Laminar Flow Element Technology and Thermal Capillary Tube flow sensors to create some of the highest performance, inherently linear mass flow instruments in the world.  Our Scientific Products are widely used for precise measurement and/or control over an enormous flow range:  from ultra low flows (less than 10 sccm) up to 1000 slpm (up to 5600 slpm available upon request).
 
Our Scientific Product family is split into three groups:  Premium Digital, Traditional Analog, and Economical Analog. We also offer Gas Flow Calibrators for validation and primary standard calibration of our Scientific Products.
 
 
Industrial Thermal Product Family (Gas Mass Flow 1000 slpm & higher):
 
Our Industrial Thermal products utilize "Immersible Thermal" sensing technology and are widely used for precise mass flow measurement in light-industry, heavy-industry, hazardous environments, and Ultra High Purity (UHP) applications.  Rugged and reliable, our line of industrial thermal mass flow meters are work horses in industry and are commonly used to measure Air and Natural Gas as well as all other industrial gases and mixtures.  Full scale flow rates are generally above 1000 slpm (35 scfm, lower flows available upon request). We offer a high temperature (HT) industrial thermal version as well for high temperature gas above 375C (700F). Sierra's Multi-Trak™ Model 670S is an advanced state-of-the-art instrument for measuring mass flow rates in very large ducts or stacks that have non-uniform velocity profiles, high turn-down requirements, dirty gas streams, wide temperature ranges and fast velocity and temperature changes.   For high pressure gas above 250 psi up to 5000psi, we recommend our Multiparameter Mass Vortex products as a great optimal solution.
 
Sierra has certified several light and heavy industrial thermal mass flow meters for greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement.  These meters are ideal for GHG measurement meeting all requirements defined by the new EPA rule (CFR 40 Part 98). Our GHG Certified mass flow meters provide an economical way to totalize methane or natural gas burned, enabling the calculation of CO2 equivalent emissions. Sierra has extensive experience in producing highly accurate and repeatable mass flow meters for methane (CH4) as well as N20, SF6, HFC's, PFC's and CO2 as called out in the EPA mandate.

 QuadraTherm™ 640i / 780i
World's Highest Performance Thermal Mass Flowmeter
 
QuadraTherm introduces the first four-sensor thermal mass flow meter design—three precision platinum temperature sensors and one patented DrySense mass velocity sensor backed by a lifetime warranty. The flow meter is available in an insertion version and an inline version.
 
Impossible to achieve with a traditional two-sensor design, the four-sensor QuadraTherm measures all thermal heat transfers occurring and works in harmony with our proprietary iTherm algorithm set to solve the First Law of Thermodynamics (for thermal dispersion technology) in a fraction of a second for each mass flow data point.  The instrument measures, then calculates stem conduction and all other unwanted heat loss components, subtracts them out, and then computes gas mass flow rate from the remaining forced convection (gas mass flow) component.
 
iTherm is also the "Brain" behind the flowmeter's capability to change gas (Dial-A-Gas) and pipe size (Dial-A-Pipe) in the field, while also allowing gas updates to the instrument via the internet which connects to the most up-to-date gases in our proprietary iTherm Gas Library.

 InnovaMass® Cryogenic
Accurate Liquefield Gas Measurement
 
Our customers needed an advanced and more reliable measurement system to accurately measure the delivery of cryogenic gas to the rapidly growing liquefied gas market. The volumetric turbine meters traditionally used could not meet the accuracy requirements of a mass flow device. Lower accuracy meant under billing and lost revenue. As a result, a cryogenic version of the InnovaMass® 240 multivariable mass vortex flow meter was developed as an ideal solution for this challenging application. The instrument has undergone extensive testing and field validation over several years on cryogenic gas delivery trucks proving to be preferred versus traditional turbine meters.
 
The 240 cryogenic version measures the mass flow rate of cryogenic fluid down to -330°F (-200°C). Using a special cryogenic temperature RTD, mass calculations are done with the latest density equations of state for liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide. The 240 excelled in accuracy performance and has the added benefit of no moving parts to wear out or be serviced like a turbine meter. Customers now get a more reliable, stable reading and an increased service life.

Our AirTrak 628S Thermal Mass Flow Meter was originally designed to work specifically with our BG3 Particulate Partial Flow Sampling System as an extremely fast, accurate, and repeatable engine air intake mass flow meter. In addition, the instrument has proven to be an excellent solution in all engine testing applications.
 
 
The meter has an extremely fast 200 millisecond response-time sensor making it ideal for the toughest transient test cycles where flow excursion can approach 10:1 within less than two seconds. Dual-Plate laminar flow profile conditioning elements inside the flow body maintain top performance in heavily constrained piping environments common in engine test cells, where long-straight pipe runs simply do not exist. In addition, the versatile microprocessor-based instrument integrates the functions of easy flow-range adjustment, meter validation and diagnostics in the field, sensor allignment guage for perfect installation, and a rugged probe-mounted NEMA 4X (IP65) housing.
